Tijuana Escorts: Former addict leads thousands to recovery

When McAlister talks about the dogged perseverance needed for recovery, she knows what she’s talking about. Her own early years were those of addiction, prostitution and a string of abusive relationships before she began her recovery process.
In November, she will be sober 54 years.
The San Diego native was born in 1932 into a family that was far from functional. When McAlister was 12, her mother remarried and McAlister ran away from home, feeling she was in the way.

Odd jobs as a housekeeper and a switchboard operator helped, but she says she turned to prostitution to make money to support her baby daughter on her own. She also fell in love with a married man who eventually divorced his wife to marry her, but the relationship was short-lived when he was sent to prison for fraud.
