Tijuana Escorts: Officer charged with sexual assault gets new trial date

SAN DIEGO A new trial date was set Monday for a sheriff’s detective accused of sexually assaulting a prostitute while on duty.
Thomas Sadler, 48, is expected to go to trial July 23. He has pleaded not guilty to five felony charges: sexual assault, battery by an officer, false imprisonment and two counts of illegally accessing computers.
The charges stem from an alleged incident in North Park in February 2008. He faces up to eight years in prison if convicted.
Sadler opted in March to waive his right to a preliminary hearing, during which a judge would have been asked to decide whether enough evidence existed to order a trial.

Sadler is accused of forcing an admitted prostitute into his unmarked Ford Taurus on Feb. 6, 2008, and driving her to a parking lot in Mission Valley, according to San Diego police.
